Rants and Reviews
I'm combining the Technology and Thoughts pages into this one, overly massive
page. If it gets too unwieldy, I'll break it up, but for now, here is the
lump sum of everything that I was thinking about at the exact moment that
I actually had enough time to waste writing it down.
- *2002-053: Here's an essay I wrote on pervasive computing (or, How to Find the Off Switch)
- *2001-320: I've started using Subversion instead of CVS, so I've written a little HOWTO. Subversion is really nice, and I highly recommend it.
- *2001-318: I've been using LVM (Logical Volume Management) on my home system for a couple of months now, and boy is it neat. Here is an overview of my experiences with LVM to date.
- 2001-186+26: I've got a new printer, and boy is it spiffy! This is a review of the Brother HL-1650 duplexing laser printer. If you want the guts without having to read the review, here's the upshot: when I bought it, it was $540 new and was the only laser printer under $1000 with Postscript and auto-duplex, and it is worth every penny. It is fast and makes beautiful print-outs, and it works flawlessly with Linux Mandrake (8.0) and Cups via USB. Could you ask for more?
- 2000-350+21: My experience with using a Sandisk ImageMate (SDDR-31) compact flash card reader with Linux
- U999 333: Here's a comparison of Gillette vs. Schick razors.
- U1999 319: I've sent a letter off to GEICO; if you are considering using GEICO as your insurance company, or if you are currently insured with GEICO, you might want to read this.
- U1998 300:
I recently bought a MiniDisk player/recorder, and wrote a
brief review
of both the product and the aquisition process.
- U1998 ???:
Server-side document processing is in full swing at the Javalab as we
speak. Here is an old document discussing server
side preprocessing. I haven't written an update, but the software has
come a long way, and you can find out more about it by visiting the
docproc
web page.
- U1997 ???:
